Going out in the path of Allah for 40 Days

(Remember also the time) when we fixed forty nights for Moosa (A.S) (After which we gave him the Torah), then you (the Bani Israeel) started worshipping the calf (which saamri crafted for you) after he (Moosa (A.S)) had departed (thereby) acting most unjustly (by worshipping something besides Allah)

We made an appointment with Moosa (A.S) for thirsty nights (at mount Toor), then ended it with (another) ten (nights)to complete (totally) his Rabb’s ter of forty nights (during which time Allah spoke to Moosa (A.S) and gave him the Torah)

Completing the Forty

Narrated by Abu Habib (R.A) I a man came to Umar bin Khattab (R.A), Umar (R.A) enquired where have you been? Guarding the frontier – he replied – Umar (R.A) once again enquired, “For how long were you on guard?” He replied “30 days” Umar (R.A) said “Why didn’t you complete the forty”

Narrated Abdur – Razzaaq and Saeed bin Mansoor that Abu Huraira (R.A) said “Who so ever guards the frontier for forty nights indeed he has completed the guarding of the frontier”

Virtue of Forty Days for Allah

Narrated by Ibne Abbas (R.A) that Prophet (S.A.W) said “Whosoever devoted 40 days for the sake of Allah. Allah sends forth from his heart to his tongue the fountains of wisdom.” (Daeef “weak”)

Anas bin malik (R.A) narrates that Rasulullah (S.A.W) said “When a person performs Salah solely for Allah’s pleasure for forty days in congregation and with the firt takbeer, two exemptions are written for him, (these are) exemption from jahannam and exemption from hypocrisy”
